Geodesic ray transform with matrix weights for piecewise constant functions
2019
We show injectivity of the geodesic X-ray transform on piecewise constant functions when the transform is weighted by a continuous matrix weight. The manifold is assumed to be compact and nontrapping of any dimension, and in dimension three and higher we assume a foliation condition. We make no assumption regarding conjugate points or differentiability of the weight. This extends recent results for unweighted transforms.
Geodesic X-ray tomography for piecewise constant functions on nontrapping manifolds
2017
We show that on a two-dimensional compact nontrapping manifold with strictly convex boundary, a piecewise constant function is determined by its integrals over geodesics. In higher dimensions, we obtain a similar result if the manifold satisfies a foliation condition. These theorems are based on iterating a local uniqueness result. Our proofs are elementary.
Fluctuation dissipation ratio in an aging Lennard-Jones glass
1998
By using extensive Molecular Dynamics simulations, we have determined the violation of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem in a Lennard-Jones liquid quenched to low temperatures. For this we have calculated $X(C)$, the ratio between a one particle time-correlation function $C$ and the associated response function. Our results are best fitted by assuming that $X(C)$ is a discontinuous, piecewise constant function. This is similar to what is found in spin systems with one step replica symmetry breaking. This strengthen the conjecture of a similarity between the phase space structure of structural glasses and such spin systems.
Unified halo-independent formalism from convex hulls for direct dark matter searches
2017
Using the Fenchel-Eggleston theorem for convex hulls (an extension of the Caratheodory theorem), we prove that any likelihood can be maximized by either a dark matter 1- speed distribution $F(v)$ in Earth's frame or 2- Galactic velocity distribution $f^{\rm gal}(\vec{u})$, consisting of a sum of delta functions. The former case applies only to time-averaged rate measurements and the maximum number of delta functions is $({\mathcal N}-1)$, where ${\mathcal N}$ is the total number of data entries. The second case applies to any harmonic expansion coefficient of the time-dependent rate and the maximum number of terms is ${\mathcal N}$. Using time-averaged rates, the aforementioned form of $F(v…
Periodic orbits of single neuron models with internal decay rate 0 < β ≤ 1
2013
In this paper we consider a discrete dynamical system x n+1=βx n – g(x n ), n=0,1,..., arising as a discrete-time network of a single neuron, where 0 < β ≤ 1 is an internal decay rate, g is a signal function. A great deal of work has been done when the signal function is a sigmoid function. However, a signal function of McCulloch-Pitts nonlinearity described with a piecewise constant function is also useful in the modelling of neural networks. We investigate a more complicated step signal function (function that is similar to the sigmoid function) and we will prove some results about the periodicity of solutions of the considered difference equation. These results show the complexity of …
